Marc Richardson’s family was described by their neighbors and friends as the Norman Rockwell family. Mark Richardson was a hardworking man and his wife Debra was known for her infectious personality. They had two children Jasmine Richardson and Jacob. But on April 23rd, 2006, the incident of Richardson family murders happened in Medicine Hat, Canada. Everyone was killed except Jasmine Richardson. What really happened shocked the entire nation.
The bodies of Marc and Debra Richardson along with their eight-year-old son Jacob were found in their home by a six-year-old boy who saw their bodies through a window. When the police arrived they found that their daughter Jasmine Richardson was missing and feared that she would have been abducted.
When a child is murdered, it is shocking, but what if a child murders her own parents? It is shocking and unimaginable, right? The evidence found shocked them because it was she who killed them. When Richardson family murders happen, their 12-year-old daughter Jasmine Richardson didn’t seem to be heartbroken. In the history of Canada, 12-year-old Jasmine Richardson was the youngest person ever charged with multiple counts of murder. What made her do so? Moreover, she was allowed to walk free.
Who is Jasmine Richardson?
She was born in 1992, to her parents Marc and Debra Richardson, and she was the light of their lives. She adored her baby brother Jacob and was very affectionate towards him. Both of them were loved by their parents.
At the age of 10, Jasmine Richardson attended a catholic school and was enrolled in the fine arts program. She was a studious quiet and well-behaved student. She made friends easily and was an ordinary child. Her room was pink with unicorns with pure innocence.
But everything changed when she became 11 years old. She adopted a new look and personality. They thought that it is due to her physical changes and early maturity. Because she didn’t look her age and her pink unicorns and dresses were changed for black clothing, dog collars, short skirts, and dark eyeliner. Her music tastes were a rock band and she considered herself to be a part of goth culture.
She used social media such as vampire freaks, and myspace Nexopia and claimed to be 15 years old. She used screen names like the devil, nocturnal Wiccan, dot killer kitty, and various others. She had an interest in serial killers and claimed her heroes to be Jeffrey Dahmer and Marilyn Manson.
Jasmine Richardson and Jeremy Steinke
At the age of 11, Jasmine Richardson met 23-year-old Jeremy Steinke at a Punk rock show. Jeremy Steinke’s upbringing was not like Richardson’s. Jeremy’s mother was an alcoholic and her partner use to abuse Steinke. The school kids bullied him and he attempted suicide. he was diagnosed as depressed and hyperactive when he was a teenager. He crafted a persona describing himself as a 300-year-old werewolf on a site called VampireFreaks.com.
Jasmine Richardson found this so-called werewolf online and fell for him. This is how she started dressing like a goth and described herself as insane and nocturnal, while Richardson described herself as a gothic individual who loves mysteries and darkness.

Jasmine’s family found out about her 23-year-old werewolf boyfriend. They became furious and stopped her from seeing him.
On April 3rd, 2006, On Steinke’s blogging platform he wrote, “Payment! My Lover’s rents are totally unfair; they say that they really care; they don’t know what is going on they just assume…Their throats I want to slit…Finally, there shall be silence. Their blood shall be payment!”
This message led the investigators to think that it was Steinke who made the plan. But when dug further into their chats, it revealed that Jasmine Richardson was the one who came up with the plan.
Richardson told her friends about the plans to kill her parents, but they didn’t believe her and thought that she was joking. The night before the murders, both of them watched Oliver stone’s 1994 film natural born killers.
On April 23rd, Jeremy went into Richardson’s basement by breaking the window. Jeremy was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and so stabbed Debra several times and then Marc had a screwdriver to defend himself by ended up dead. Jasmine slit her brother’s throat because she thought it would be hard for Jacob to live without his parents. After killing they drove off to Utopia.
Both of them got caught
Digital evidence was found through the email exchanges between the two. They were tracked and arrested. At her 2007 trial, Jasmine Richardson pleaded not guilty because she said that she had hypothetical conversations about killing her family but never intended to do so. But she was found guilty by a jury of 3 counts of first-degree Murder. 6 years in jail followed by 4 years of supervision in the community. In 2008, Jeremy Steinke was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder as well. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 girls. The couple exchanged letters from jail, promising to marry and none of the letters expressed guilt or remorse.
Jasmine Richardson now
Jasmine Richardson was in an event of extensive treatment and rehabilitation. And the psychiatrist found that she was diagnosed with conduct disorder and oppositional defiant disorder. In 2016, Richardson was freed from the criminal justice system. She changed her identity and no one has her new records.
