Causes of period pain

The muscular wall of the womb tightens and mild contractions occur in your womb continuously. This is so mild that most of the women will not feel them. But during the menstrual time, the wall of the womb starts to contract more vigorously to help the womb lining shed. When the wall of the womb contracts, it will compress the blood vessels lining in your womb, cutting off the blood and oxygen supply temporarily to your womb. Without oxygen, the tissues in the womb will release chemicals that will trigger the pain.

It also produces a chemical called prostaglandins that encourage the womb muscles to contract more causing more pain. Some women might have built-up prostaglandins for them to experience stronger contractions.

Heal the period pain with home remedies

Mostly menstrual cramps can be treated at home. But call your doctor if you find the pain severe cause they might need a prescription or other treatments to help.

This is one of the effective ways for you to heal the pain. Massage involves pressing specific points while you move your hand around the side, back, and stomach.

It is better if you use essential oils to massage. When you self massage the duration of pain is reduced by almost half a day. You can use lavender, peppermint, fennel, or rose oil to massage. Use the essential oils carefully.

Dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil with a safe concentration of one drop, like coconut oil because it safely carries the essential oil into your skin and helps to spread the oil over a large area. Take a few drops and give a gentle massage, in a circular motion for five minutes a day.

When you do this, the uterine spasms will be reduced by relaxing the uterus. Focus on the abdominal area or you can still give a full body massage to reduce your overall stress that will help in relieving menstrual cramps.
