My mom is always concerned about my nutrition and she is keen on providing me with nutritional food for breakfast without skipping. One of her favorite breakfasts she cooks for us is porridge. Sounds surprising? Yes, but do you know that porridge is providing sustainable energy for people for thousands of years? Porridge is described as tasteless and boring and so many doesn’t try it. But believe what, it’s one of the best and beneficial breakfasts one can have.

Porridge is a healthy way to start our day. Porridge is not glamorous, so it was cheap and was served in the bowl of prisoners. But now porridge is known for its versatility and nutrition and so it is on the top in the charts of food.  In the ancient city-states, they built their empires with the energy provided by porridge because the grains used in the porridge were their basic need for survival.

There are so many benefits to eating porridge that is unbelievable. Porridge is simply known as a high-fibre meal for breakfast as it is rich in fibre. Also, it consists of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Porridge which is simple and effective helps in maintaining good health and fuels energy.

They are low in calories and helps to fill the stomach without the addition of calories. It’s good for both men and women, as the porridge consists of 15% of the fiber need for women and 10% for men and helps in regular digestion while controlling the levels of blood and cholesterol. It also includes iron for metabolism and red blood cell nourishment and calcium for healthy bone. Many people use porridge for their diet.  

Porridge seems to be a thick liquid food with types of grains mixed and heated with water. And that makes the porridge tasteless and boring. But it can be made in many ways to make it delicious. A handful of oats, a bit of water with 200 ml of milk along with the seed, dried fruits, or nuts will be delicious. Here are some other ways to prepare porridge.

Blueberry and apple Porridge



Mix oats with water and some milk in a medium heated pan. Add some salt and stir well. Keep it in the simmer for 5 to 6 minutes by stirring it often until it appears as a smooth cream. Add some grated apple and honey with squashed blackberries. And after cooking add some nuts over it.

Banana Porridge

Take a pan, and add 1 cup of rolled oats, a pinch of salt, 2 cups of milk, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and stir well and boil. After heating remove the pan and add the crushed bananas and 1 tablespoon of honey if needed. And mix them well. Finally, place some pieces of bananas on the top.

Take half of the oats and dates blend and with a little amount of milk to obtain a thick paste. Take the mixture and add the remaining oats, milk, and cocoa powder along with a salt pinch in a medium heat pan and stir well for about 5 to 10 minutes. After it is cooked serve with yogurt.
