Who is Oprah Winfrey?
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29th, 1954 in the rural town of Kosciusko Mississippi in a farm community. She was born to Vernon Winfrey, a barber, and Vertia Lee. Soon after she was born they both were separated, and therefore Oprah had to live under the guidance of her strict grandmother and learned to read before the age of 3.
When she was 6 years old, she went to live with her mother in Milwaukee and faced an urban lifestyle with poverty, lack of water, and terrible neighbors. But in her early teens, she was allowed to live with her father in Nashville and was in peace.
Because of her born nature of speaking, she started making speeches in the church and social gatherings and even earned through it. Once again when she was sent to live with her mother she faced so many problems like molestations and abuse by her mom’s relatives. She escaped from them and came back to her father.
Vernon Winfrey was a strict father and provided her with guidance and rules to improve herself. She became an excellent student and started participating in many clubs. And through a speaking contest, she was able to win a scholarship to Tennessee state university.
Her success story
In 1971, she entered the university to study while she was hired to read newscasts in a radio station in Nashville. And then in 1976 she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and was appointed as a reporter and co-anchor for ABC News affiliate. And then became a cohost of the morning show for 8 years in Baltimore.
In 1984 she moved to the TV station of Chicago and hosted a faltering show and the show was a hit where she managed to gain more than 100,000 viewers and the show beat the company’s competitors and made the show to first place in the ratings and it was even renamed as Oprah Winfrey show through her engaging personality and style.
In 1986, she started a film production company in the name of Harpo Production. Inc. She also appeared and produced films and won several awards. She focused on avoiding tabloid topics even when her ratings fell but she received massive respect and was rewarded with popularity.
In 1996, she started an on-air club that made unknown authors popular by discussing their books on the show and making those books raise to the charts of bestsellers. And Winfrey was identified as the most popular book marketer in the United States.
In 2011 her Oprah Winfrey show was ended and she joined her own networks and made joint ventures. She was a highly paid entertainer and wealthiest and she did contributions to charities.
From being a poor girl in the urban lifestyle to live the luxury life, she inspired and encouraged many through her failures and success.
