Michelle Obama is best known as the former US first lady. She is a lawyer, writer, and the wife of former U.S. President Barack Obama. But what is the Michelle Obama story, long before she became the wife of the First African American President? She is a role model to many, especially women as she was changing the world to empower them. But when people ask the first lady Michelle Obama to describe herself, she would first introduce herself as the mother of her two daughters Malia and Sasha.

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born on January 17, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois.  Her father, Fraser Robinson was a city-pump operator for the Chicago Water Department and her mother was a secretary at Spiegel’s but later she stayed home to raise Michelle and her older brother Craig. They lived in a small bungalow on Chicago’s south side.

They lived as a close-knit family who used to share meals and stay together while sleeping in the living room with a sheet serving as a makeshift room divider. Michelle’s father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that impacts the brain and spinal cord, at a young age. But he hardly missed a day of work, while Michelle’s mother managed the busy household. And so through that, they use to save money to send her to college. Michelle learned the importance of working hard to reach her dreams and willingness.

Her education

Michelle and her brother learned to read at the age of four at home, and so they skipped the second grade. she started taking classes in her school’s gifted program and there she learned French and completed accelerated courses in biology. 

She attended the city’s first management high school for gifted children, the Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, where she served as a student government treasurer. Like her brother, she attended Princeton University and in 1985 she graduated cum Laude with a B.A. in Sociology. she studied law at Harvard Law School. She was hired by the Chicago corporate-law firm of Sidley and Austin and there she got specialized in entertainment law and was assigned as an advisor to summer associate Barack Obama.

In 1989, when Michelle worked as a lawyer at the Chicago firm Sidley Austin, she met Barack Obama. First, she refused to date Barack thinking that their work relationship would not make it. But soon the couple fell in love, and two years after dating, she got married to him on October 3, 1992. 

She first caught the eye of a national audience, when Barack Obama delivered a high-profile speech at the Democratic National convention in 2004. Michelle scaled back her own professional work to attend to family and campaign obligations when Barack ran for the Democratic presidential nomination. 

When he sought reelection in 2012, Michelle Obama campaigned on his behalf. She traveled the country making public appearances and giving talks. 

Why Michelle is an inspiration?

Michelle Obama reminds us that an African American girl from a common family background has the potential to do and be anything. She got a highly successful career in her own right through her hard work and determination. 

She spent her time engaging in charitable works. She worked to provide some sort of normality to children in an abnormal environment. She encouraged companies and businesses to employ war veterans with specialized skills through campaigns. She did make sure that the service members and their families are supported throughout their life.  

Why Michelle is an inspiration?

She inspires people with her speeches and emphasized the idea of giving back to the nation. She aimed to create a better, and equal society. 

As a modern-day revolutionary woman,  she has been involved in many important causes throughout her life.  She encouraged better education for girls,  healthy living, and equal rights while helping families who lived in poverty.  In 2010, she launched her let’s move initiative and aimed to address childhood obesity. Through her campaigns, she urged companies and schools to offer healthier eating options. 

Why Michelle is an inspiration?

She and Barack Obama launched Let Girls learn, in 2015. They encouraged the girls to stay in school and I asked the government to make a great investment in their Education.  She appealed directly to girls and young women to give priority to education. Michelle does everything with passion, from breaking down stereotypes to removing the barriers to girls’ education. Her book made it to the top of the New York Times best sellers’ list. she continued inspiring people with her positive attitude. 

As first Lady, Michelle Obama looks forward to continuing her work on the issues that are close to her heart, like helping children to lead a healthy life, supporting military families, and encouraging young people to fulfill their dreams and goals.
