Who is Michael Jackson?

Michael Jackson, also known as Michael Joseph Jackson was born on the 29th of August 1958 in Gary Indiana in the United States. He was born to a crane operator in a steel plant and was from a poor family with eleven members where Michael had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. His father’s dream was to become a musician but as he failed due to the need of looking after his family,  he pushed his sons to succeed in music. Jackson was abused and whipped by his strict father during his childhood and was not allowed to have friends and enjoy his childhood. Instead, he began his career at the age of 5 in the musical group.

Initially, he did performances along with his brothers. At first they performed in the clubs and pubs by spending endless hours of rehearsing and impressed many audiences with their performances and later in 1969, they were recognized and was signed in the label of Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown and so they gave their pop hits with “I want you back” under their productions. Michael was a lead and talented singer of his family and later became a solo artist. His solo performance in the album “Off the wall” got positive responses among the audience in 1979.

In 1982, his song album “Thriller” became the most popular and had the best-selling in musical history as it was a huge success and made over 100 million copies. It was recognized as the all-time, most influential music video and received many awards. And Michael Jackson became the biggest star in music. His moonwalk dance became so popular while he was a heartthrob and a popular entertainer during the mid-1980s.  

Michael Jackson had a strange and private life. He was married twice to Lisa Mary Presley and then to Debbie Rowe where both ended up in divorce. Due to his child maltreatment, he was suffering insomnia, nightmares, and hyper-compliant behaviors. He underwent many surgeries to change his appearance due to his health reasons and his skin tone changed and it is said that he had a disease called Vitiligo that made his color changed. Because he missed his childhood and faced abuses, he loved children and he had a ranch named ‘Neverland’ which was an amusement park for children.

In 1984, he won 8 Oscars. He was crowned as the most successful entertainer of all time. And he was a very good person who provided his humanitarian efforts to support about 39 charities.

Michael Jackson died when he was at the age of 50, in 2009, June 29, because of a cardiac arrest caused by the drug he took for his sleep in Los Angeles. His death left many of his fans in grief and it is said that 17,500 fans attended his funeral and more than 3 million viewers watched it on television and online.
