Lady Gaga was born on March 28th, 1986 in Manhattan, NY, USA. Lady Gaga’s birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. She was born into an Italian American family and was bought up in New York’s exclusive Upper East Side neighborhood. 

They were far from wealthy. They were out of the house for much of her early life, so she was left with plenty of time to style her hair, create wicked outfits, and sing. 

When she was little, she showed a strong passion for music and she used to sing along on her mini plastic tape recorder to Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper‘s hits. She turned to sounds performed by The Rolling Stones and The Beatles and by the age of four, she had taught herself to play piano by ear.

When she entered her teenage, she learned music and onstage performance in Ney York City Club. She had studied at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Manhattan.  She was very passionate about acting and music during her school life and was considered a studious kid. 

Her parents wanted her to pursue a career in music but she dreamed of becoming an actress and went in for numerous auditions. But she failed at the auditions. Still, she did not want to give up. She decided to work on her music skills and was seen as an extraordinarily talented singer. She use to take her piano around New York City banging on doors so she could perform. 

When she was a teenager, her first song was penned by her and played in front of the public for the first time during an open mic night at New York’s Bitter End with a band she formed.

Lady Gaga, when she was growing up, she was struggling with depression and felt isolated. Her parents thought that it would be because she was unique as a child. She was bullied from a young age and it had a huge impact on her mental health. People used to call her ‘rabbit teeth’ and she was once thrown into a trash can while classmates looked on

She felt isolated from events and would start to question herself and become doubtful of her abilities and then she would develop depression. 

During a time, after she became a star, she was seen discussing her mental health with Oprah Winfrey including her battle with fibromyalgia, all over the body, and Post-traumatic stress disorder. 

This was caused as a result of being sexually assaulted at 19 years old. This incident left a lifelong scar in her mind. And she had to go through numerous mental and physical therapies. It was not that easy for her but she kept trying and was persistent.

When Lady Gaga dropped off from college, a band named SGBand was formed by her and her NYU friends.  There she played gigs and sang in downtown pubs and other sites.  She found herself among singers who wrote the same style of songs and wanted to write something different and unique. She decided to do something provocative in the music. She wanted to do something original and fresh. 

She was found by Talent scout Wendy  Starland who introduced her to a music producer named Rob Fusari

Until then she was Germanotta and when she was introduced to the music producer she became Lady Gaga. This stage name was inspired by Queen’s 1984 hit “Radio Ga Ga. First, they called her Gaga, and then she came up with the whole name.

Her debut album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and went on to sell 4.6 million copies in the United States alone. This album received tremendous response in Europe, particularly in Germany and U.K.  Her other singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” peaked at number 1 in the U.S. and both received quadruple platinum certification. 

The response to fame monster led to the deluxe edition. It was released as a  standalone EP in 2009, debuted at number 1 in Australia, and reached number 5 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. 

Then the single, “Bad Romance”, became a massive global hit and reached number 1 in 12 countries worldwide. In 2011, Lady Gaga released her second studio album, Born This Way. This album bounded a variety of genres like disco, Opera, and heavy metal, while selling more than 6 million copies worldwide. 

Artpop was her third studio album which came out in 2013 with mixed reviews. After the critical and relative commercial flop of Artpop, it was clear that the thing that made her famous would not do it for her any longer. 

But she still knew how to pick herself back up.  Four albums and seven years since her fame exploded, she staged another reinvention. 

She released an album of jazz standards with famous crooner Tony Bennett that went on to win a Grammy. Cheek to Cheek, Gaga’s collaborative album with Tony Bennett, also debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 131,000 copies. She embarked on several highly successful concert tours in her career.
