Communication is the key and it is also a good way to stay in harmony with our dogs. It is tough because the way humans and dogs are different. The way how dog speaks is through body language such as movement, positions of their tail and ears, and various others. And on the other hand, humans are verbal creatures, relying on words to communicate feelings, give instructions and ask for help. So how can humans have better communication with dogs?

How dog speaks ?- Train your dog to talk

They communicate with us all day and that doesn’t matter whether we know it or not, we talk right back with them through a variety of verbal and nonverbal cues. The key is to understand the gestures a dog uses and reward them.

How dog speaks?

They are flexible animals who stay close to their family group. So it is important to socialize your puppy in its early days and continue it throughout its life. The dog language is the canine communication and it is how a dog talks. It is a complex system of body language, scent cues, and vocalization, that strengthens the social position of the dog within the group. So what each signal means?

How dog speaks?

Dogs used to wag their tail,  and it is the most common thing to observe but sometimes misunderstood. When a dog wags its tail,  we always think that it is happy. But if you find a dog you are not familiar with,  the possibility of Tail wag is not about signaling for you to pet it.  If his ears are down and not perking,  or if the dog’s body is stiff, then he might not be comfortable. A straight tail means the dog is tracking something, a curled tail means it is relaxed while a tail that is held lower means fear or anger.

Dogs use to lick as it is a behavior learned since birth. From an early age, the puppies will affectionately lick their mother’s mouth and if it goes with a big sloppy kiss on your mouth, it is a way of signaling love and respect towards you.

The dog leans its head because they listen more. When they hear a sound,  they will lean their heads to adjust their ears towards the sound. If the ears are pinned back, they are sad or uncomfortable, perky ears mean they are highly focused, while droopy ears are signs of submission. The perkier the ear, the more interested the dog is.

How dog speaks?

A dog barks for different reasons.  Maybe it might have patiently communicated with you but when it does not get a good response, it will start barking to get your attention. It is just talking to you. It might want to do its business outside, its favorite toy got struck, or it might want to come to you.

On the other hand, its barking might annoy you, because it is to alert the family about a new arrival to the house.  It can be out of fear or out of excitement.

Dogs show their feelings through their eyes.  You might have noticed that when you rub or scratch your dog’s belly or ears, he may close his eyes. This is because of the pleasure and enjoyment. They are on high alert or want space when you notice whites on their eyes.  If the dog is unblinking,  it is a sign of aggression, on the other hand, if it is staring at you it is to get your attention. When making direct eye contact, if it avoids you then your dog is uncomfortable.

How to train your dog to communicate?

If you understand how dog speaks to you,  then you will be able to speak better with them.  They will pick up the same non-verbal Cues they give to us.  Once he learns the moves you can start speaking a command to go along with that.  You will learn what command the dog picks up on best, so you can continue accordingly to improve the flow of the communication. Therefore you should train your dog to communicate.

Talk directly

Talking directly with your dog is something done commonly.  When you speak directly to your dogs from the time they are puppies,  it will help them to understand the language better.  you have to exaggerate your speech and make vowels sound clearer.  It’s actually called baby-talking to your dog.

Do not chatter

How to train your dog to communicate?

Your dog will turn the verbal cues faster if you do not constantly talk to them. If you chatter continuously they will learn to ignore them because they don’t find any meaning to them.  So you need to be aware of how much you talk to your dog when you ask them to do a particular behavior. For example, you can talk ” what a good dog you are” and then hold still, then continue ” let me play with you”.  Try to limit all that verbal noise for use when you are bonding with your pup or using praise rewards.

Do not repeat

When you train your dog a communicate a new word, make sure that you don’t repeat the word over and over again.  When you repeat it more without associating it with the particular action, reward or consequence, it will not learn it thinking it has less meaning.  If you want your dog to sit,  say it once and wait for a second to see if they are putting their rear on the floor.  If they do it, give them a treat.  But if they do not sit,  it means that they have not learned it properly.  So you need to go back a step to train the word ‘sit’.

Show them using hand signals, to make them understand what you want them to do, and if they do, reward them.  Associating the word and action makes them loan easily more than repeating the word over and over again.

Follow these tips to make it easier for your dog to learn.  By translating your words into action, they can respond to you and learn faster. Train your dog to talk by using clear communication to build up a strong relationship between you and your dog.
